THE FASTEST CAR IN WORLD

Bloodhound SSC is the name of a project aiming to break the land speed record with a pencil-shaped car powered by a jet engine and a rocket designed to reach approximately 1,000 miles per hour (1,609 km/h). It is being developed and built with the intention of breaking the land speed record by the largest ever margin.
If £10 million of sponsorship funding is obtained the construction should be complete by the end of 2011 and the record attempts may happen in late 2011 or early 2012.


The project was announced on 23 October 2008 at the Science Museum in London
Richard Noble, engineer, adventurer, and former paint salesman,[2] reached 633 mph (1,019 km/h) driving turbojet-powered car named Thrust 2 across the Nevada desert in 1983. In 1997, he headed the project to build the Thrust SSC, driven by Andy Green, an RAF pilot, at 763 mph (1,228 km/h)
The task of driving the vehicle will fall to the land speed record holder Wing Commander Green, who will lie feet-first in the BLOODHOUND. As the car accelerates from 0-1,000 mph (1,600 km/h) in 42 seconds, he will experience a force of 2.5g (two and a half times his bodyweight) and the blood will rush to his head.


To slow down, airbrakes will deploy at 800 mph (1,300 km/h) and parachutes at 600 mph (970 km/h). Disc brakes will be used below 250 mph (400 km/h). As he decelerates, experiencing forces of up to 3g, the blood will drain to his feet and he could black out.
The School of Engineering at Swansea University has been heavily involved in the design of the vehicle from the start. Professor Oubay Hassan, Professor Ken Morgan and their team have used Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in order to provide an understanding of the aerodynamic characteristics of the proposed shape, at all speeds, including predicting the likely vertical, lateral and drag forces on the vehicle and its pitch and yaw stability.
A prototype Eurojet EJ200 jet engine developed for the Eurofighter and bound for a museum, was donated to the project. This will take the car to 300 mph (480 km/h)
The Super Sonic Car will have roughly the same horse power as 180 F1 cars.
The four 36-inch (910 mm) diameter wheels will rotate at up to 10,500 rpm and will be machined from solid aluminium to resist the 50,000 g centrifugal forces
A full scale model was exhibited at the 2010 Farnborough International Airshow,[9] when it was announced that Hampson Industries would build the rear of the car in the first quarter of 2011

GUINNESS BOOK

The 55-year history of Guinness World Records began with a single question, the type of question that has been repeated millions of times at dinner parties, pubs, kitchen tables, classrooms and work places across the globe.
During a shooting party in County Wexford, Ireland, in 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver – then Managing Director of the Guinness Brewery – asked a simple question: what was Europe’s fastest game bird? Despite a heated argument and an exhaustive search within the host’s reference library he could not find the answer.

There was no book with which to settle arguments about records. He realised then that a book supplying the answers to this sort of question might prove popular.
Beaver’s idea became reality when Guinness employee Christopher Chataway recommended student twins Norris and Ross McWhirter,The brothers were commissioned to compile what became The Guinness Book of Records in August 1954.






The Guinness Book of Records is the world's most sold copyrighted book, thus earning it an entry within its own pages. A number of spin-off books and television series have also been produced.
Guinness World Records bestowed the record of "Person with the most records" on Ashrita Furman of Queens, NY in April 2009. At that time, he held 100 records.
In 2005, Guinness designated 9 November as International Guinness World Records Day to encourage breaking of world records; it was described as "phenomenally successful".
On December 10, 2010 The Guinness World Records rested its new "dreadlock" category after investigation of its first and only female title holder Asha Mandela with the official statement.
In 1976, a Guinness Book of World Records museum opened in the Empire State Building.
In 2008, Guinness World Records released its gamer's edition in association with Twin Galaxies. The Gamer's Edition contains 258 pages, over 1236 video game related world records and four interviews.

NOBEL PRIZE

Alfred Nobel (1833 - 1896) - Chemist, Inventor, and Engineer , and Founder of The Nobel Peace Prize.
Alfred Nobel was born in Stockholm on October 21, 1833.
He was well known for dynamite and detonating caps.

WHY HE STARTED NOBEL PRIZE AND ORG :

In the 1860s, after finishing his research in the area of explosives, he returned to Sweden, and began to develop nitro-glycerine. This was extremely dangerous at the time, and an explosion occurred at a factory he built in 1864 and killed several people, including his brother.
The Swedish authorities then prohibited the production of nitro-glycerine within the Stockholm city limits, forcing Nobel to work elsewhere.
He did so on a barge, but the awkwardness of the working space did not stop Nobel, and indeed, in 1867, he succeeded in producing dynamite in the form of a paste mixture of nitro-glycerine and silica. He also invented the blasting cap to aid detonation, and the smokeless gunpowder, ballistite. These inventions may have brought wealth and fortune to Nobel, but they were quickly used by countries around the world as weapons of mass destruction.
Towards the end of Nobel’s life, he had amassed a huge amount of money. He also bitterly rued the fact that dynamite was being used in such a cruel way. In his will, he dedicated his entire wealth and fortune to those who had "conferred the greatest benefit on mankind". This was how the Nobel Prizes started.
And in 1901, five years after Nobel’s death, the first 5 prizes in physics, chemistry, physiology and medicine, peace, and literature were awarded. The sixth category, economics, was founded in 1969.

PRIZE MONEY :

Since 1901 when the prize money was 150,000 the amount has increased by 6667% to today's amount of 10 million. Most of the money given to the prize winners usually is used to pay back loans for the research. With research today the cost of paying back loans for all the research could cost much more than 10 million.

Television Rating Points - TRP is the criterion that indicates the popularity of a channel or programme and this data is very useful for the advertisers
Presently, INTAM (Indian Television Audience Measurement) is the only electronic rating agency functioning in India. INTAM uses two methodologies for calculating TRP. First is frequency monitoring, in which 'people meters' are installed in sample homes and these electronic gadgets continuously record data about the channel watched by the family members. 'People meter' is a costly equipment, which is imported from abroad. It reads the frequencies of channels, which are later, decoded into the name of the channels and the agency prepares a national data on the basis of its sample homes readings. But there is a drawback in the technique, as cable operators frequently change the frequencies of the different channels before sending signals to the homes. It may be very misleading to read a channel according to a particular frequency even if the down linking frequency is same all over India.
Second technique is more reliable and relatively new to India. In picture matching technique people meter continuously records a small portion of the picture that is being watched on that particular television set. Along with this agency also records all the channels' data in the form of small picture portion. Data collected from the sample homes is later on matched with the main data bank to interpret the channel name. And this way national rating is produced.

Television Rating Point (TRP) is a tool provided to judge which programmes are viewed the most. This gives us an index of the choice of the people and also the popularity of a particular channel. For calculation purpose, a device is attached to the TV set in a few thousand viewers' houses for judging purpose. These numbers are treated as sample from the overall TV owners in different geographical and demographic sectors. The device is called as People's Meter. It records the time and the programme that a viewer watches on a particular day. Then, the average is taken for a 30-day period which gives the viewership status for a particular channel.

Target Rating Point is a means of determining how often an advertisement is seen by a specific target audience. Calculating TRP will not indicate an advertisement's effectiveness, but it will give an idea of the amount of exposure an advertiser is getting with its target audience.

CALCULATION OF TRP :

Use this formula to determine TRP:
   TRP = GRP x Percentage of target audience.

* Determine the numbers. For example, an ad airs with 43 percent of viewers seeing it each of three times it       aired. The target demographic is 20 percent of the total audience.

* Find the GRP, which is rate x frequency. In the above example, the rate of viewers (43 percent) x the            number of times it is seen (three) = GRP. 43 x 3 = 129 gross rating points.

* Plug the GRP into the formula. GRP (129) x target audience percentage (20 percent) = TRP. 129 x .20 =      25.8 target rating points.

* Interpret the numbers. Generally, TRP should average between 100 and 300 per week. Extremely good        would be 400 or more, and less than 100 is ineffective. The score of 25.8 in this example shows an                ineffective ad campaign.

After taking the Bollywood box office by storm, Aamir Khan-starrer 3 Idiots brought record television viewer ratings (TVRs) for Sony Entertainment channel when telecast last month.

The film, aired July 25, got 10.9 TVRs, catapulting the channel to the third position of Hindi general entertainment channels in India with 270 gross rating points, a statement from the channel said.

Supermoon may cause natural disasters next week

On March 19, Earth’s satellite will be at its closest point to our planet in 18 years -- a mere 356,577 kilometers away. The event -- also called a lunar perigee -- was dubbed a "supermoon" by astrologer Richard Nolle back in the 1970s. The term is used to describe a new or full moon at 90% or more of its closest orbit to Earth. Next week, it will be at 100%.
On March 19th 2011, the moon will make its closest approach to Earth in almost 20 years, possibly triggering earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other disasters. The phenomenon, called lunar perigee or Supermoon, happens when the moon reaches its absolute closest point to Earth. On March 19, the natural satellite will be only 221,567 miles away from our planet.
There were Supermoons in 1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005, and these years had their share of extreme weather conditions, too. Although there are scientific laws that say the moon affects the Earth, it's still ambiguous whether the lunar perigee and natural disasters is coincidence or not.British freelance weatherman John Kettley was quoted as saying "A moon can't cause a geological event like an earthquake, but it will cause a difference to the tide. If that combines with certain weather conditions, then that could cause a few problems for coastal areas." While hoping for a non-disastrous ‘moon giant’, point your eyes and camera lenses toward the night sky on 19th. If the sky is clear, you’re gonna get an exceptional celestial treat.
